The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act or, CARES Act, was passed by Congress on March 27th, 2020. This bill allotted $2.2 trillion to provide fast and direct economic aid to the American people negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Of that money, approximately $14 billion was given to the Office of Postsecondary Education as the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund, or HEERF.

This serves as an acknowledgement that Pillar College signed and returned to the Department the Certification and Agreement and the assurance that Pillar College has used the applicable amount of funds designated under the CARES, CRRSAA and ARP (a)(1) and (a)(4) programs to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
Pillar College received $1,436,781 from the Department pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under the CARES, CRRSAA and ARP (a)(1) and (a)(4) programs.
As of October 30th, 2020, Pillar College has disbursed $281,240 in funds to 346 students.
As of April 30th, 2022, Pillar College has disbursed the full amount of $1,436,781 in HEERF funds to 641students. We estimated there were a total of 641 students eligible to receive funds from HEERF.
The method(s) used by the institution to determine which students received the Emergency Financial Aid Grants and how much they would receive under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act was to first consider the timeframe after March 23, 2020 and run an excel file that produced the in-seat, active, current spring 2020 semester students who were in the Traditional, pre-Lead, Lead, Blend, graduate (not international students) programs. A form was created that presented two awards – $500 for Technology, and $800 for Cost of Attendance.
The instructions, directions, and guidance provided by the institution to students concerning the Emergency Financial Aid Grants was through Pillar College’s sending an email from the president’s office to each eligible student stating they were to go on the Pillar College website to apply. A dedicated banner and link were created on the website to make the form readily assessable for students to fill-out. Students were instructed to download the form, fill it out and send it back to [email protected] Upon receipt of the form, the financial aid office reviewed the applications, and scheduled the award for disbursement through a stipend check or electronic funds which provided the funds to the students.

Pillar College acknowledges that we have signed and returned to the United States Department of Education the Certification and Agreement and the assurance that Pillar College has used no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 314(a)(1) of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act to provide emergency financial aid grants to students. The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund II (HEERF II) is authorized by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA), Public Law 116-260, signed into law on Dec. 27, 2020. In total, the CRRSAA authorizes $81.88 billion in support for education, in addition to the $30.75 billion expeditiously provided last spring through the Coronavirus Aid, Recovery, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, Public Law 116-136.

The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III (HEERF III) is authorized by the American Rescue Plan (ARP), Public Law 117-2, signed into law on March 11, 2021, providing $39.6 billion in support to institutions of higher education to serve students and ensure learning continues during the COVID-19 pandemic.
ARP funds are in addition to funds authorized by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA), Public Law 116-260 and the Coronavirus Aid, Recovery, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, Public Law 116-136. Emergency funds available to institutions and their students under all emergency funds total $76.2 billion.
The ARP (or HEERF III) is a financial aid grant provided to you for expenses related to the continued disruption of your education due to Coronavirus.
