Pillar College president joins panel at Mayor Ras Baraka’s Roadmap to Education Equity Conference

Pillar College President Rupert A. Hayles, Jr. recently joined with other Newark college presidents to serve on the “Reimagining Equitable Spaces” discussion panel at Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka’s 2022 Roadmap to Educational Equity Conference. The panel met Saturday, October 29th at the NJIT campus to share information and develop solutions to educational inequalities.

“Our commitment is to build a common agenda while continuously learning, staying accountable, and integrating the strength of partners as we generate relationships,” Hayles said. “The goal is to create safe spaces and policies that promote equity for all people. The leadership of Pillar College is committed to a process grounded in data and context while targeting solutions,” he said.

In addition to Dr. Hayles, the panel included Rutgers University – Newark Chancellor Nancy Cantor, Essex County College President Augustine Boakye, and New Jersey Institute of Technology President Teik Lim.

Keynote speakers at the two-day conference included NJIT President Lim and Newark Superintendent of Public Schools Roger León.

Pillar College will have virtual instruction and work remotely from January 3, 2022, and will resume in-person instruction and in-office work on January 18, 2022.
