Research shows that having at least one Black teacher in elementary school makes Black children more likely to graduate high school and enroll in college. That’s the idea behind Pillar College’s innovative B.E.S.T. (Black Elementary School Teachers) for Men Program, which will award 10 full tuition-free scholarships for men to earn their BA in Elementary Education at Pillar College—the only program of its kind in New Jersey. Our program has people talking. Watch our President, Dr. Rupert A. Hayles, Jr. discuss the program and its role in shaping the next generation of Black teachers.
